In the spring of 2007, Sertoma Centre opned the Good as New Thrift Store and Training Centre in retail space at 4331 West Lincoln Highway (211th Street) in Matteson, IL. The building was purchased with funds from the $2 million campaign.

Already over 50 individuals with disabilties have had the opportunity to do a community based assessment (CBA) at this store as a first job experience in the community. With nearly one-third of all individuals served at Sertoma Centre wanting a job i the community, this has been a wonderful way for them to get that needed expereince before going out on a job interview. Previously at oof site locations, Sertoma Centre was only able to provide 6 to 8 individuals with a CBA annually.

With the campaign coming to a close at the end of this year, there is still about $300,000 needed to complete the $2 million goal.

To receive a $500,000 grant from the Coleman Foundation, Sertoma Centre needs to receive another $140,000 towards a $1 million one-for-two challenge match by march 2008.

Sertoma Centre's mission is to provide opportunties that empower individuals with disabilties to achieve personal success. Since more than 1/3 of them want community employmwnt, this campaign and the Good as New Thrift Store are opportunties for them.
